Question by SHELLTOE stand like a man: why is it that the longer someone is making hip hop music the less they tend to listen to it?
i’ve heard this mentioned by a few artist saying that they really dont listen to hip hop except for the stuff they grew up on. the two artist i’ve heard mention this that i can think of off the top of my head are Slug and Blockhead. so is this a common thing for an artist? does it help for creativity to get another perspective on music except for the type of music you are making?
Jim you must be British. i dont know any american who says proper.

i dont think thats entirely true cuz a lot of proper mc’s mention new songs a lot of the time, but the way hip hop or shud i say rap is heading no1 really wants to listen to that shit if they grew up on or even ever heard proper HIP HOP! and i suppose it does help with creativity to listen to some good rock or just GOOD music, but in the end a good mc stays true to him/herself and doesnt get attracted by music that makes money

In economics there is a law of diminishing returns, also the law of diminishing satiety. It means that if you keep eating the same kind of candy bars all at one sitting, after eating a few, they won’t taste so good anymore.
It’s not like they’re breaking a lot of new ground in music with that stuff.
I suspect that is what is happening here.
